Parents & Carers

It is a privilege to be the Headteacher of The Highfield School and it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our school website.

For those of you considering your child’s secondary or Sixth Form school place, The Highfield School’s annual open events give parents, carers and children the opportunity to see much of what our school has to offer. This year, we have moved to virtual events through our website. Please click here for more information on these events. Here, you will also find our digital school prospectus and where (in line with the dates of these events), you will be able to access the virtual Headteacher’s speech, virtual tours and others materials to assist you in making these important decisions.

The Highfield school is an ambitious school where all are encouraged to achieve their full potential. This is based on a culture of high expectation, challenge and the support needed, so that by working hard together, we can all achieve our goals. We have an excellent reputation both academically and pastorally. This reputation is based on outstanding teaching and learning and high standards and expectations. We expect all our students to work very hard but recognise that the very best learning takes place when it is harnessed to interest and enjoyment. Our curriculum is therefore innovative and relevant and whilst there is a great emphasis on English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Languages, this is balanced by a promotion of and dedication to the arts and creativity.

As a learning community, academic achievement is of course incredibly important. Of equal importance is helping our students to develop strong values and therefore our curriculum is driven by our cooperative values of Equality and Equity, Responsibility, Democracy, Solidarity and Self Help, which support our young people in gaining a strong sense of their place in their local, national and global communities. In addition, student leadership is a driving force within the school community and is a further opportunity for our students to acquire the skills and confidence needed to be the leaders of the future, in a diverse and competitive world.

We are immensely proud of the achievements of all our students and celebrate their successes at every opportunity. These successes are built on a genuine partnership between students, the school, parents and the community. Our school is at the heart of its community and from 1st April 2013 we became a Co-operative Trust school - part of the Letchworth Garden City Education Partnership - which is providing many exciting opportunities for our staff and students to work with our partner organisations. We are also part of a Teaching Alliance with other schools across North Hertfordshire.

At Highfield, we offer a happy and a positive learning environment where staff and students enjoy working and learning together. We are very proud of the excellent relationships that exist between staff and students- relationships based on respect and consideration for others. We firmly believe that this provides a safe and secure learning environment for all our young people.

Our ethos is of challenge and support, fulfilling potential and taking advantage of the many educational opportunities we provide our students. We have our eye on the future, aiming to be innovative in our approaches, whilst not losing sight of the traditional values that provide the foundation for any successful school.

This website, together with our school prospectus, outlines some of the many aspects of our work. In addition, we would be delighted to answer any questions you may have.  Please email (admin@highfield.herts.sch.uk) or telephone (01462 620500) and we look forward to sharing more information with you about the school and its successes.
