Welcome

The Highfield School has a successful, supportive and vibrant Sixth Form.  We offer students the chance to develop not just their academic achievements, but also other important life skills such as organisation, time management, team working and communication.

Our students are encouraged to become truly independent learners and we provide the environment and resources, supporting them to take opportunities and aspire to excellence.

Our extensive curriculum offering provides students with a wide-ranging choice of subjects and as part of the Letchworth Schools Consortium we can offer students the ability to study many combinations of subjects.  We follow two-year A-Level and BTEC courses and students also complete a supplementary qualification as part of their studies in Year 12.

Our students are supported by an experienced Tutor team and our Tutor programme has been created to help students develop skills such as critical thinking, debating and problem solving.  We run an enrichment programme which is designed to ensure students are prepared for work and higher education and covers non-curriculum topics such as resilience, wellbeing and first aid.  We organise for external speakers to talk to the students and past presentations have included the director of the Mars Rover project speaking about the challenges of sending a robot to the red planet.

The Highfield Sixth Form provides numerous extra-curricular opportunities which include sporting teams, music and drama and the Duke of Edinburgh award.  Our students are encouraged to take on responsibilities such as becoming subject ambassadors, members of student committees, associate governors and also to stand for election to our student leadership team.

Our Sixth Form is led by Mr J Golds. This allows us to focus on the challenges of transition from Year 11 into Year 12 and also to support students in their future plans, be that work, apprenticeships or university.  We are proud of our record in helping students to make the next step in their lives and all of our cohort in 2022 went on to their university or apprenticeship placement of choice.

We look forward to welcoming you in person.
